Air Conditioning Installation
At Thermodynamics, we provide expert air conditioning installation for homeowners and businesses throughout Sheffield and the surrounding areas.
As demand for efficient climate control grows, more people are turning to modern air conditioning systems—not just for keeping cool during summer, but also for reliable and energy-efficient heating during colder months.
Today’s air conditioning units are far more versatile than many realise, offering year-round comfort in a single, cost-effective solution.

Air conditioning is no longer just a luxury found in offices or commercial buildings. Advances in technology and energy efficiency have made air con a practical and increasingly popular option for UK homes, helping to maintain a comfortable indoor environment whatever the weather. Whether it’s a single room, an entire property, or a business premises, we design and install tailored systems to suit your exact needs.

Cooling and Heating in One Smart System
One of the biggest advantages of modern air conditioning units is that they offer both cooling and heating from the same unit.
Using efficient heat pump technology, air con systems can extract heat from outside air—even in winter—and use it to warm your home or workplace. This dual functionality makes air conditioning an excellent all-in-one climate solution, providing fast and controllable comfort all year round.

In summer, the system operates as expected—drawing heat out of your indoor space and lowering the temperature to your preferred setting. In winter, the cycle reverses, and the same system delivers powerful heating at a fraction of the cost of some traditional heating methods.

This flexibility is especially valuable in the UK, where our weather is anything but predictable. With an air conditioning system installed, you're always in control, regardless of external conditions.

The Benefits of Air Conditioning
Great for Allergy Sufferers
Air conditioning systems include built-in air filters that help trap dust, allergens, pollen, and other airborne particles. This leads to cleaner, fresher air—particularly beneficial for allergy sufferers and environments that require high hygiene standards.
Suitable for a Wide Range of Spaces
Air con isn’t just for large offices or factories. Today’s systems are perfect for keeping bedrooms cool during those hot summer nights, loft conversions, garden offices, kitchens, retail spaces, salons, restaurants, and more. We can design a system to suit virtually any layout or space.
Energy-Efficient Climate Control
Compared to traditional electric or gas heating, air conditioning systems are incredibly energy efficient—especially when heating a space. Many models achieve high energy ratings and can help reduce your overall energy consumption and utility bills.
Longevity & Minimal Maintenance
Once installed, air conditioning systems are easy to maintain with regular servicing and will last 15-20 years. We offer ongoing support and servicing packages to ensure your system stays in top condition and continues to perform efficiently year after year.

We pledge to plant 5 trees for every air conditioning system we install, because together we can make a difference.
Just One Tree is a non-profit initiative removing CO2 from the atmosphere and reversing biodiversity loss through global reforestation. They plant trees in areas severely affected by deforestation to maximise the effect on reducing global warming. In the process they help to provide agricultural education and sustainable incomes to local communities.

But they don’t stop there. Just One Tree concentrates on restoring the entire ecosystem by planting on land and in the oceans, and they also focus on helping to shape the next generation of planet-conscious thinkers by bringing environmental education into the classrooms with their free teaching resources and Just One Tree Day.
Experience a seamless air con install
Your home is your comfort zone and a safe haven, which is why we treat your home with the utmost respect during your air conditioning installation journey. Our customers often comment on how we leave their homes cleaner than they found them, which is very important to us as we ensure we treat your home like our own.

Our air con installation process begins with a consultation to understand your cooling & heating requirements and to determine the most suitable system for your property. We will conduct a site study to evaluate the heat loss of your home and discuss where a unit could be sited.

We understand that each property is unique, which is why Thermodynamics South Yorkshire provides a full, in-house design service for our air conditioning installations. Our professional engineers will work with you to establish your needs and design a system that is specific to your home.

After we have selected the most appropriate system and location for the installation, we will give you a comprehensive quotation that covers all the costs and timescales associated with the installation. Before we begin the installation, we will also take the necessary steps to ensure that all planning licences and building laws have been met and complied with.

The air con installation will then be carried out by our small team of experienced engineers, who will make certain that the job is completed according to the highest possible standards of both quality and safety. In addition to this, we will give you detailed instructions on how to operate and maintain your new air conditioning system.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Can a Heat Pump Replace My Gas Boiler and Provide Hot Water?Yes, a heat pump is designed to provide 100% of your home's heating and hot water needs so it will replace your gas boiler entirely.
-
How Much Space Do I Need to Install an Air Source Heat Pump? The size of a heat pump varies but as a general guide it will be around 1 metre wide and 1 metre high. You will also need space inside your home or in a garage or outhouse for a hot water cylinder.
-
Are Air Source Heat Pumps Worth it?Yes, they are worth the investment. Air Source heat pumps are eco-friendly and very efficient when designed properly, helping you to reduce your energy bills whilst protecting the environment.
-
Will My Energy Costs Drop With an Air Source Heat Pump?Yes, air source heat pumps will reduce your energy bills as long as they are designed and installed correctly.
-
Can an Air Source Heat Pump be Used for Cooling My Home?Absolutely, heat pumps can be reversed and cool your home too! During the summer months, reversing the heat pump will remove heat from your rooms and expel this hot air through the heat pump fan, leaving cooler air indoors.
-
Do Air Source Heat Pumps Require Servicing? We recommend an annual service to ensure your heat pump works efficiently and to increase longevity.
-
Can Air Source Heat Pumps Work With Solar Panels?Absolutely! Air source heat pumps use electricity to work, so if you can produce your own electricity via solar panels, this will reduce your electricity bill.
-
Which Size Heat Pump Do I Need? This depends on the size of your home and how well insulated it is. When you contact us to arrange a survey, we will complete a heat loss assessment of your home which dictates the size of heat pump required. If you have a small home which is well insulated, a small heat pump will generally be sufficient. However, if you have a large home or little to no insulation, a larger heat pump will be needed to sufficiently heat your home. We will recommend the right size for your home and your needs.
-
How Does an Air Source Heat Pump Work in Winter?Air Source Heat Pumps are designed to work effectively down to -25 C. They take heat out of the outdoor air, amplify it using a refrigerant and then transfer this heat indoors. When outdoor temperatures drop below freezing, there is still some heat available to remove and amplify, so they are capable of providing heat even in cold temperatures.
-
Can an Air Source Heat Pump Work With My Existing Radiators?Sometimes, larger radiators will be recommended to ensure optimal efficiency of the heating system. A heat pump engineer will carry out a heat loss survey during your initial consultation which will help to establish if your existing radiators will be a sufficient size to work with a new heat pump. Sometimes, larger radiators will be recommended to ensure optimal efficiency of the heating system.
